Yoga

East with a Twist Yoga

YogaI started to practice yoga in 2008. I had a stressful corporate job that needed to be balanced with postural yoga and meditation. After crossing paths with many studios and teachers, I decided that I wanted to become one. I felt yoga was calling me to immerse much deeper into its philosophy and start living the yogic life. I received my credentials as a yoga teacher through Yoga Alliance - USA (ERYT-500, YACEP). Currently, I am a certified 1000 hrs. yoga teacher including two certifications in Hatha and Yoga Nidra; Kundalini Yoga; Vinyasa flow; Yin, Restorative, Chair yoga, and Prenatal yoga modalities. I also became a Laughter yoga practitioner (Dr. Madan Kataria) that I teach to groups of people.

At present, I practice and teach several yoga modalities: Kundalini yoga, Hatha yoga, Yoga Nidra, Yin yoga, and Restorative yoga, meditation and pranayama, in the form of pre-recorded classes. All classes are available for purchase in my online library. Classes are gentle, alignment-based practices; immersive, mindful, embracing spirituality through breath work and meditation.

Some benefits of the practice you may experience are relaxation, mental and emotional balance, physical strengthening, and stress release. Meditation and breathing techniques may release much stress, relax you, and bring you balance, by releasing control and surrounding to the breath.

My class with you

Classes combine all three of the below types of yoga postures:shamanic healing

  • Langhana – to decrease in Sanskrit. Langhana refers to quieting, soothing, cooling postures and breathing intended to calm, reduce and ground energy. In yoga asana practice, langhana postures are those that slow the heart rate, breathing and metabolism, relaxing the nervous system, and calming the mind. Langhana asanas are restorative. In conjunction with brahmana asanas, they help bring the body, mind and spirit into balance.
  • Brahmana – means expanding and heating up in Sanskrit. Brahmana refers to stimulating, energizing, strengthening, challenging practices for the body and mind. These yoga postures increase mental activity and enhance metabolic functions. The intention is to build, nourish, raise energy and promote vitality.
  • Samana – is the pacification, alleviation and balanced energetic effect that is the result of well-adjusted yoga asanas. Specific practices are focused on creating mental and physical balance.

Our yoga classes include:yoga

  • gentle, slow movements that suit your unique needs
  • moderate asanas that are performed at your own pace
  • plenty of rest between poses, according to your own needs
  • longer holds in gentle poses
  • sequences with a natural flow and breath, to your own capacity
  • quiet, minimal guidance
  • seated meditation in any posture that is comfortable for you
  • breathing practices (pranayama) - including deep, slow breathing and/or focus on exhalation
  • listening and chanting mantras
  • using mudras (hand gestures)
  • and using your preferred props to make you most comfortable in your practice.

Attending yoga classes (pre-recorded classes)

Yoga modalities that you can practice with me:
Kundalini, Hatha, Nidra, Yin, and Restorative Yoga

You can purchase a monthly pass and enjoy pre-recorded classes of your choice, each being about 60 minutes long, with access for 30 days from the time of purchase. There is a growing library of  pre-recorded classes of different yoga modalities for you to enjoy at your own convenience, in your own home, such as: Kundalini, Hatha, Yin, Yoga Nidra, Restorative yoga, meditation, and pranayama (breathing).yoga

Nothing is mandatory in my class, and you do not need to strictly follow my instructions – you need to observe and follow your own body and breath, rest and take breaks when you feel you need to do so, then continue with the practice when ready. Stay in a telexed posture on your back (Shavasana) or in a child pose on your heals (Shashankasana, Balsana). Yogic experience is about breath awareness and expansion in a relaxed way.

Kundalini yoga (yoga of awareness) is usually held for 60 minutes, up to 90 minutes. For this practice you need:

  • a mat
  • meditation cushion (pillow or block)
  • strap
  • water bottle
  • eye cover
  • light blanket.

You may wish to chant or simply listen to the mantras. The structure of the class consists of warm-ups and breathing techniques, a catered kriya with timed postures, relaxation, and meditation. Please refer to the orientation class.

Each Kundalini yoga class is different. I sometimes modify the flow and duration of the poses to be user friendly and gentler on the body. The practice benefits are the same. I have been a certified Kundalini yoga teacher through Kundalini Yoga Research Institute (KRI-USA) since 2015.

Hatha yoga

Hatha yoga is yoga of the body; Ha in Sanskrit language means Sun and Tha means Moon. This class is usually held for 60 minutes and has a range of asanas, breathing techniques, and deep relaxation in the form of Shavasana. You need a mat, block, strap, cushion, or anything else that makes postures (asanas) easier for you. The practice of yoga should not bring you to pain point, but be in a relaxed, meditative state.

Similarly, Yin and Restorative yoga postures are based on the Hatha yoga modality, and have different names, where I may use both when explaining the asanas. These classes are held for 45 or 60 minutes with sequences designed by myself to work on specific pain points or to strengthen certain parts of your body. For these modalities you need some props of your choice, although not mandatory, to aid in holding postures comfortably. The props may include: blocks, straps, cushions, bolsters, rolled-up towels, etc.

Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra consists of breathing and meditation techniques that are practiced for about 15 minutes. This is followed by Yoga Nidra per se, a “sleepless sleep” practice - a rotation of consciousness with guided visualization. Here, you focus on a specific goal (sankalpa) to manifest while your brain operates under alpha brain waves. When you start yoga Nidra, the brain moves from the conscious, beta waves into the meditative state that takes you into alpha state, the brain wave frequency that links conscious thoughts with the subconscious mind. So, you are “planting the seed” into subconscious mind to manifest on a conscious level.

Yin and Restorative Yoga

Yin yoga is a modality focused on tissues such as ligaments and tendons, as represented by the cooling energies of the moon (yin). Several, carefully chosen postures in a user-friendly sequence are held for 3-5 minutes to provide a gentle increase in the blood flow to the areas that need healing. Any props that you feel will help to ease each pose maybe used.

Restorative yoga is similar to yin yoga and based on principle of “self-care.” However, there are fewer postures (3–4), that are held longer, 15-20 minutes each. This deep relaxation helps us release vibrations of stress, and nurtures our bodies, minds, and souls to possibly rejuvenate us on a deeper level if we allow it by surrendering to the stillness of the body and the silence of the mind. For that, you may use any props and larger cushions, folded blankets, etc.

Meditation and breathing

Be in the present moment.

Yoga begins in the present moment – “the now”, in the awareness of your breath. This means silence of the body and stillness of the mind. We dive deep into our inner self to explore how our bodies, minds, and souls connect to each other, and back to us.
Satya is a Sanskrit word meaning “truthfulness.” This is one of the universal attitudes towards our environment and our connection with nature. In other words, it’s a reflection of our true nature in relation to the external world. In practice it means being honest in our words and actions with ourselves and those around us. It's a style of yoga that cultivates a sense of stillness. This is what I strive to bring into every class I teach. Silence of the mind in Stillness of the body.

A library of different yoga classes, mentioned above, is available to purchase and stream (not to download) which gives you flexibility to practice on your time. These classes are about 60 minutes long and are available to you for 30 days from the day of purchase.

You must sign a waiver before purchasing your classes. Upon purchasing, you will receive Kundalini yoga class orientation document with imbedded YouTube short videos, as your guide for this yoga modality, if you have not practiced Kundalini yoga before.

Testimonials

Yoga classes – Kundalini yoga/Yin yoga

After practicing Kundalini yoga with Olga for several years, it helped me to allocate time for myself, for my own growth. It made me realize to always take care of my body, mind, and soul, especially in this crazy and busy world. Stretching improves my physical strength and reduces back pain. Also, I learned to meditate and to breathe deeply (yogic breath and breath of fire) which helps me to relax, remain calm, relieve anxiety and just enjoy the day. It's really a great mental relaxation.

*** Lilia

I enrolled in monthly Kundalini yoga classes for over 4 months with my yoga guru – Dr. Olga. I am delighted to share that my experience of practicing kundalini yoga became more meaningful once I started these classes. The classes are filled with a mixture of mudras, kriyas and various meditation techniques and focus on various chakras and body asanas (some borrowed from hatha yoga). Our teacher explains each technique and their impact on the spiritual self. These classes got me closer to understanding the importance of achieving mental calmness, staying sane and unperturbed in chaotic environments and further improving my focus, sharpness and concentration. Highly recommended for those who have belief and trust in this science and way of life.

*** Rohini

Olga is an exceptional teacher who skillfully guides her students through poses and encourages inner reflection. I was new to Kundalini Yoga and found her to be patient and encouraging while I found my way. I highly recommend Olga as a yoga teacher in several styles as well as for healing sessions, as Olga is a gifted Shamanic Reiki healer.

*** Marney

Olga’s Yin classes are especially complementary with other yoga or physical fitness routines. They’re a great opportunity to slow down and give the body the stretches and breathing it deserves while quieting the mind and taking time to pause and reset.
